Subject: | Campaign Finance Reform |
Since the U.S. Supreme Court Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission decision in 2010, corporations and special interest groups have had too much sway over Pennsylvania elections and policies. As a result of this ruling, the influence of money in political campaigns has only grown in the past decade. We need to implement reasonable limitations on campaign contributions. We will soon be introducing legislation to limit this unchecked influence by setting a cap for campaign contributions in Pennsylvania. Specifically, our bill would amend the Pennsylvania Elections Code to cap the aggregate total of campaign contributions per candidate for all offices in a calendar year at $10,000 for individual contributions and $20,000 for political action committees (PAC) contributions. Our democracy works best when big money stays out of politics and everyone can be represented not just the wealthy few. Please join us in co-sponsoring this legislation to restore the balance of influence to the everyday Pennsylvanian and safeguard our democracy from wealthy mega donors, large corporations, and special interest groups. |
