Subject: Flexibility for Licensee Hiring

Three years after the COVID-19 pandemic originally hit the United States, our food service industry and liquor licensees are still struggling to find and recruit enough employees.  Beginning to grow and thrive, they are facing staffing shortages of unprecedented levels, even with added incentives, staff are often new and have no experience in the industry.  While restaurants and distributors could benefit immensely from hiring knowledgeable employees who work for other distributors or importing distributors, current law prohibits it.

My bill aims to solve this issue by allowing employees who work for distributors or importing distributors to also be allowed to work at other licensees’ establishments.  Not only would this provide an avenue for licensees to hire skilled, reliable workers, but it would provide employees with a way to combat inflation in their household budgets.

As legislators, we must continue to identify where our small businesses are struggling and implement commonsense policies to assist them.  This added flexibility will not only benefit businesses struggling to hire workers but will give employees the opportunity to earn extra income in difficult times.  Please join me in co-sponsoring this necessary legislation to support our licensees and their employees.
