Subject: | Modernizing State Armory Board statute |
Pennsylvania’s State Armory Board has many important responsibilities, including providing armories for the use of the Pennsylvania National Guard, purchasing necessary land and buildings, maintaining armories, and selling land that is no longer usable by the National Guard. Unfortunately, the chapter of Pennsylvania statute governing the State Armory Board has not been updated since 2006, so several sections are of the existing law are outdated. My legislation expands the board’s ability to rent or lease out buildings, authorizes the issuance of relevant rules and regulations, and allows the board to oversee the utilization of buildings at Fort Indiantown Gap. It also modernizes the language in several areas of this statute and clarifies the powers and authority of the Adjutant General in conjunction with the State Armory Board to ensure greater collaboration. Please join me in cosponsoring this important bill requested by the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs to help provide and maintain facilities for the Pennsylvania National Guard. |
