MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 22, 2021 04:17 PM
From: Representative Joe Webster
To: All House members
Subject: Providing Financial Security to Families of First Responders who Die in the Line of Duty

I will be introducing legislation which would increase the one-time death benefit the Commonwealth pays to our first responders killed in the line of duty to $300,000, and I hope you will join me and co-sponsor this bill.

Every day, law enforcement officers, paid and volunteer firefighters, EMTs, Civil Air Patrol members and Pennsylvania National Guard members put themselves in harm’s way serving the Commonwealth and its communities. When tragedy strikes and one of these brave men or women dies in the line of duty, we need to do everything we can to recognize the unique heroism and sacrifice our first responders make for our benefit. And we need to make sure their families have the means to maintain their economic well-being, to ensure they can meet their financial needs, to ease the stress of their responsibilities.

I ask that you show our first responders we support their efforts in serving our Commonwealth and will help ensure their families have the means to persevere, should tragedy strike.

Introduced as HB1365
