Subject: Waiving Birth Certificate Fees for Homeless and Foster Youth

A birth certificate is your first official identification document. It establishes your name. It proves who you are. It is something you use throughout your life. in our society, you cannot function without a birth certificate. Homeless youth and foster youth know this all too well.

Sadly, they often face financial hardship when trying to obtain a copy of this vital record and the added difficulty of securing permission from a parent or guardian. Because of this, we are introducing a bill that waives fees and parental consent requirements for homeless and foster youth applying for birth certificates. T

This bill is part of a package of legislation that seeks to help homeless and foster youth throughout our state. Please consider co-sponsoring this important measure.

Introduced as HB1043
