MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 6, 2021 04:24 PM
From: Representative Steven R. Malagari
To: All House members
Subject: License Fee Exemption for Detection Dogs (former HB2799)

Currently, Pennsylvania’s Dog Law rightfully exempts the payment of licensing fees for service dogs and police dogs. Detection dogs, however, fall through the cracks and do not receive the same exemptions. Detection dogs are trained to sniff out accelerants, bombs/explosives, narcotics, and other things human senses may be unable to detect.

To rectify the situation, I will soon be introducing legislation that would include detection dogs under the licensing fee exemption. Given the vital work these dogs and their handlers do, it seems only right that they also receive the same exemptions as service dogs and police dogs.
Please join me in supporting this important legislation.

Introduced as HB1072
