Subject: | Poll Worker Compensation Increase & Training Compensation Increase |
I plan to introduce legislation which will increase the compensation for district election officers – poll workers – in Pennsylvania. Additionally, this bill will also increase the compensation for instruction time for poll workers. In the current climate, concerns with COVID-19, varying levels of mitigation control in place, and a Presidential election coming up, we need to ensure that poll workers are justifiably compensated at a more reasonable rate. These individuals sacrifice their time and energy to ensure that elections are held fairly and provide voters with assistance in the process of in-person voting. This increase in compensation as well as increase in compensation for training, not only recognizes their work and sacrifice but as numerous counties are concerned with a lack of required election officers this November, the increase could also provide further incentive for individuals to either continuing to serve or new people to get engaged in the process. Please join me in sponsoring this important legislation. |
