Subject: | School District Opt-Out Option for Mask Mandate |
Local school boards and school directors know their communities better than state bureaucrats. Therefore, school boards should have a role in implementing COVID-19 safety measures. After all, with 500 school districts statewide, there is no “one size fits all approach” when dealing with pandemic mitigation. Unfortunately, recent mandates have removed local school boards from the equation. As a result, I intend on introducing legislation allowing school districts to “opt-out” or “opt-in” to a recent mask mandate issued by the Wolf administration. Our local school boards have the vision and foresight to implement these types of safety precautions, without the state imposing mandates upon our education system. The legislation will be specifically tied to the existing COVID-19 Emergency Declaration, as well as any future heath pandemics, when a mask edict is imposed by the administration. Local school boards should not be ignored. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, contact Doug Zubeck in my Capitol office. |
