Subject: | Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the American Legion |
In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution commemorating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the American Legion. Since March 15, 1919, when members of the American Expeditionary Force held the first American Legion caucus in Paris, France the American Legion has been one of the most prominent and influential veterans organizations in the United States. The American Legion has been a driving force for the creation and establishment of such programs as the original GI Bill, the U.S. Court of Veterans Appeals, the creation of the Flag Code, as well as the American Legion baseball program, in which about 82,000 youths participate each year. Please join me in cosponsoring this resolution and recognizing the American Legion for a century of dedicated service to veterans, service members, and American society as a whole. Please do not hesitate to contact my office with any questions. |
