Subject: | Prevailing Wage Act Exemption for School Districts |
In the near future, I will introduce legislation from a prior session to exempt Pennsylvania school districts from the requirements of the Prevailing Wage Act. It has been repeatedly shown that Pennsylvania’s prevailing minimum wage on public work projects has higher labor costs when compared with private sector wages. This burdensome mandate costs school districts and property taxpayers significantly more on school construction and renovation projects. Exempting our schools from this costly requirement will maximize the value of every taxpayer dollar and ensure more dollars are spent in the classroom to benefit Pennsylvania’s students. This legislation was previously SB 866 (Wagner, Bartolotta, Ward, Yaw, Regan, Folmer, Alloway, Aument, Eichelberger, and Martin). The Pennsylvania School Boards Association has endorsed the concept of exempting school districts from prevailing wage. Please join me in cosponsoring this mandate relief for our schools. |
Introduced as SB124
