Subject: | Increasing Penalties for Concealed Carrying a Firearm Without a License |
Under current law, an individual can have multiple prior felony convictions for illegally carrying a concealed firearm without a concealed-carry permit and still be eligible to possess, use, manufacture, control, sell, and/or transfer firearms. This leads to situations where violent criminals with multiple prior convictions for illegally carrying a firearm without a permit are still otherwise eligible to possess a firearm. To address this legislative shortcoming, I plan to introduce legislation in the near future that would include carrying a concealed firearm without a concealed-carry permit in the list of offenses that would prevent an individual from owning a firearm. This legislation will take guns out of the hands of criminals and serve to protect our neighbors from those who would take advantage of this legal loophole, curbing the gun violence epidemic that plagues many of our communities. I hope to count on your support in protecting our communities by increasing the penalties for carrying a concealed firearm without the appropriate licensing. |
