| Subject: | Equipping Parents to Make Informed Choices |
| Informed consent is the foundation of healthcare, and as parents, we all have the right to be fully educated on the environments to which our children are exposed to on a daily basis. Our children spend a large portion of their lives within the four walls of our schools and ensuring their safety during that time should be a commonsense effort. In the midst of the most recent measles outbreak, it is crucial that parents are able to make an informed decision with their child’s health and wellness in mind as they step foot in school every day. For children who may be battling autoimmune disorders or fighting childhood cancer, vaccines can be harmful to their already fragile health. Exposure to preventable diseases can lead to a tragic and too-soon death or hospitalization for these children who are enduring so much already. Having the resources and knowledge to make the best decision for one’s child is a right that should be encouraged. This legislation would require all Pennsylvania school districts to publish on their public-accessible website the number of vaccinated and nonvaccinated enrolled students in each school year. This legislation would maintain confidentiality and remain sensitive to those who wish to refuse or delay vaccinations, while equipping all parents with the information they deserve to decide on their own. As parents, we all wish to feel as though we are doing everything in our power to do what is best for our children. This legislation would open that door for many parents. Please join me in supporting this sensible legislation and giving parents the support they need to protect their children. |
