MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 14, 2019 04:25 PM
From: Representative Sara Innamorato
To: All House members
Subject: You're Registered!

We hear it all the time -- decisions are made by those who show up. The reality of life is that people are busy working jobs, raising kids, or going to school. Registering to vote isn’t at the top of most people’s mind.

To have a true democracy, our goal should be to get as many people as possible registered to vote so they can make their voices heard. My bill will automatically register people to vote, unless they opt out, when they interact with PennDOT, access Pennsylvania’s health and human services benefit programs, or any other state service. Results from state legislation passed in other states have already shown that a secure system of automatic registration will save money, increase accuracy of voter rolls, and boost voter participation.

Linking voter registration with ordinary activities of life, such as renewing driver licenses or applying for workers’ compensation will empower more people to exercise their right to vote.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation that will improve American democracy for the people of the Commonwealth.

Introduced as HB1556
