MEMORANDUM

From: Representative Thomas R. Caltagirone
To: All House members
Subject: Struggling Senior Citizens School Property Tax Elimination

Politicians have been promising the eliminate school property taxes for as long as I can remember and I have been in the General Assembly for over 42 years. I am sick and tired of the inaction and the power of the entrenched special interests that derail our efforts to eliminate school property taxes every session.

Therefore, I am introducing legislation that will eliminate school property taxes on the homestead of Pennsylvania seniors who qualify for the property tax rebate program. My proposal is simple. If a homeowner qualifies under the property tax rebate program all of their school property taxes will be paid in full. This legislation will eliminate the cap on the maximum rebate allowed under the program. Funding for this proposal will come from the State Lottery Fund, the Property Tax Relief Fund and the General Fund.

Please join me in doing something real to eliminate school property taxes for struggling senior citizens.

Introduced as HB1247
