Subject: Inciting Violence Against a Law Enforcement Officer

Each day, thousands of law enforcement officers in Pennsylvania put on a uniform and set out to protect the citizenry. In a time when law enforcement is subject to intense public scrutiny, it is crucial that we do all we can to protect those who protect us. Hostility towards law enforcement yields real danger and fosters violence. Currently, there is no law in Pennsylvania specifically aimed at prosecuting those who incite violence against law enforcement officers.

My proposal would establish a felony of the third degree for a person who willfully advocates violence against one or more law enforcement officers that is likely to incite or produce such violence. Law enforcement officers risk their lives every day to enforce the laws of this Commonwealth, to protect and serve its citizens, and to ensure safety for all.

Please join me in ensuring their safety and co-sponsor this important legislation.

Introduced as HB540
