Subject: | School Safety Threat Assessment Teams for Public Schools K-12 |
I am writing to invite you to join with me in cosponsoring a bill that I will be introducing in the near future that creates threat assessment policies and teams for public school entities. This legislation requires local school boards to establish policies and procedures for the establishment of threat assessment teams. The bill requires the superintendent to establish for each school a threat assessment team. The threat assessment teams shall (i) provide guidance to students, faculty, and staff regarding recognition of threatening or aberrant behavior that may represent a threat to the community; (ii) identify members of the school community to whom threatening behavior should be reported; and (iii) implement the policies adopted by the school board. The bill requires threat assessment teams to report to the superintendent upon a preliminary determination that an individual poses a threat of violence to self or others. Please join me in my efforts to further promote safety in our schools by cosponsoring this bill. |
