Subject: | Education Savings Accounts |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that would amend the Public School Code to create education savings accounts for students with disabilities. This legislation would allow certain students to enroll in an empowerment scholarship account, in which the Commonwealth would deposit 90 percent of the per pupil spending of the student’s home district for the student’s parents or guardians to spend on specific approved education-related expenses, including private school tuition, tutoring, online courses, costs associated with college entrance exams, and curriculum. These empowerment scholarship accounts place greater discretion in the hands of parents of students with disabilities, allowing them to customize their child’s education in a way that will enable their child to learn in the environment best suited to them. Similar programs have been implemented in Florida and Arizona, with the majority of parents reporting their incredible satisfaction with the program. Please consider joining me in co-sponsoring this important legislation to guarantee our students the opportunity for an education that best fits their needs. |
