Subject: | Emergency Towing Lights Legislation |
I will be introducing legislation that will amend Chapter 45 of the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code to authorize tow truck operators to be equipped with one or more flashing or revolving yellow lights and one or more flashing or revolving red lights when removing a disabled vehicle, therefore allowing them to be considered emergency vehicles in certain conditions. These lights would be activated when operators are responding to a 911 dispatch, a request from law enforcement to remove a disabled vehicle, or a request from the owner or operator of the disabled vehicle. This legislation would distinguish tow truck operators when operating upon the highway to remove a disabled vehicle, especially when the vehicle or vehicles are involved in an accident. Many times the scene of an accident includes one or all of the following; law enforcement, ambulances and fire trucks. Each one of these vehicles is authorized to be equipped with emergency lights for responding to emergencies. For additional safety purposes, this legislation will help people driving on the highways to distinguish all vehicles responding to an emergency as an emergency vehicle. Please consider sponsoring this legislation. |
