Subject: Inmate Prison Postage Elimination
 
In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation amending the Prisons and Parole Code to discontinue the current policy within the Department of Corrections that provides inmates with postage-paid envelopes for personal use.

Currently, the Department of Corrections provides inmates with 10 postage paid envelopes per month. With the various means of making money for inmates, through prison jobs, idle pay, etc., many in the correctional field believes this free postage is a waste of money. Elimination of postage paid envelopes will save the corrections budget approximately $2.7 million annually.

I invite you to join me as a co-sponsor of this bill. This is a reintroduction of SB 366 from the previous legislative session. Co-sponsors included: TARTAGLIONE, WOZNIAK, VULAKOVICH, HUTCHINSON, RAFFERTY, FOLMER, WHITE, VANCE and ALLOWAY.
