Subject: | Prostate Cancer Awareness Month |
In the near future, I will introduce a resolution declaring September, 2023 as "Prostate Cancer Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania. Every day, more than 25 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in Pennsylvania, and 1 in 9 men will be diagnosed in his lifetime. While these are alarming figures, the good news is when this is detected early and confined to just the prostate or regional lymph nodes, the five-year survival rate is nearly 100%. It is important to raise awareness about the prevalence of this cancer in men, and encourage a baseline screening in their forties whether or not a family history is present. I encourage my colleagues to participate in events to raise awareness for prostate cancer including 5Ks, golf outings, and seminars, and take note of the blue lights at the Capitol later this month. I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this resolution. |
