Subject: | Removing the Wartime Provision from Pennsylvania’s Disabled Veterans' Real Estate Tax Exemption |
In the near future, I will be introducing legislation to amend the real estate tax exemption for Pennsylvania’s veterans. Current law provides for property tax exemptions to all veterans who are 100% disabled as a result of wartime service and need financial assistance. My legislation removes the wartime service requirement provision, which would expand the program to include 100% disabled veterans who suffered service-related injuries during times of peace. Wartime service should not be a qualification in our state’s property tax exemption program, as soldiers frequently risk severe injuries during non-combative operations and exercises. Those veterans who suffered debilitating, life-changing injuries as a result of their service to our nation, regardless of the time period, deserve an opportunity to receive assistance through this program. I hope you will join me in cosponsoring this legislation. If you have any questions, please contact Matt Szuchyt in my office. |
