Subject: | Optional County Demolition and Rehabilitation Fund |
In the near future, I plan on reintroducing SB 438 from last session. This legislation amends the Real Estate Tax Sale Law to establish a county demolition and rehabilitation fund in each county. The governing body of a county may, by ordinance, impose a fee not to exceed $250 for the sale of any property being sold pursuant to this act or pursuant to an action for mortgage foreclosure. A public notice shall be provided stating the establishment of the fee and its rate. In addition to the purchase price, the bureau conducting the sale of the property or the sheriff in a mortgage foreclosure shall collect the fee. The fund established may be used by the county, any not-for-profit or pro-profit corporation that has a contract with the county or a taxing district, redevelopment authority, land bank or other government entity, for the demolition or rehabilitation of blighted property located in the county. This legislation is vital to our communities to be able to fight blight. |
