Subject: | Condolence Resolution Honoring the Life and Career of Kobe Bryant |
Soon I will introduce a condolence resolution honoring the life and career of global icon Kobe Bryant, an NBA Champion whose fierce competitiveness, singular focus, and unmatched work ethic on the basketball court inspired millions of people around the world. Bryant, who was born in Philadelphia in 1978 and graduated from Lower Merion High School in 1996, led the Lower Merion Aces to a 31-3 record and the PIAA state championship in his senior year before being drafted 13th overall in the 1996 NBA Draft. During his 20-year NBA career, Bryant won five NBA championships with the Los Angeles Lakers, one NBA Most Valuable Player award, and was an 18-time NBA All-Star. During his career and after his retirement, Bryant was an active member of the Lower Merion community. His number 33 Aces jersey was retired by the team in 2002 and the school’s basketball facility was renamed “Bryant Gymnasium” after he made a sizeable donation. Bryant passed away on January 26, 2020, in a helicopter crash in California. He was 41. Gianna Bryant, 13, the second oldest of Kobe Bryant’s four children with his wife, Vanessa, also perished in the crash, along with seven others. Please join me in co-sponsoring this condolence resolution. |
