Subject: | Condemning the Use of Performance-Enhancing Drugs |
Soon I will introduce a resolution condemning the use of performance-enhancing drugs by athletes and the organizations that encourage their use. The use of performance-enhancing drugs, also known as doping, is on the rise in young athletes. These athletes are motivated by their belief that professional athletes dope to succeed. Organizations, such as World Wrestling Entertainment, and World’s Strongest Man, allow and encourage their athletes to use performance-enhancing drugs. As a result, doping has become legitimized in the minds of the youth. Unfortunately, athletes are ignoring the dire risks associated with doping. These drugs pose serious health risks, such as the increased chance of suffering a heart attack or stroke, developing liver and other cancers and triggering mood and hormonal imbalances. My resolution will also urge the PA Department of Education to notify public and private schools in this Commonwealth of the adoption of this resolution and urge all high school and college coaches and athletic directors to educate themselves and their athletes about the dangers of performance-enhancing drugs. Please join me in supporting this important resolution. If you have questions about this resolution, please don’t hesitate to contact me. |
