Subject: | Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Day |
In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution designating March 19, 2019 as “Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Day” in Pennsylvania. Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) is the oldest Greek-lettered organization established by African American college-educated women. AKA was founded by Ethel Hedgeman in Washington, DC in 1908. AKA is dedicated to promoting peace and improving the quality of life for citizens worldwide. The sorority’s functions have grown over the years to engage members worldwide in advocacy and service projects to improve socioeconomic, racial, political and environmental conditions. Currently, AKA has a nucleus of nearly 300,000 members in over 1,000 graduate and undergraduate chapters. Membership is comprised of distinguished women who boast excellent academic records, proven leadership skills, and are involved in the global community through advocacy and service. I ask you to join me in celebrating Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Day in Pennsylvania by co-sponsoring this resolution. |
