Subject: | Resolution designating the day of February 11, 2019, as “PA 2-1-1 Day” in Pennsylvania |
I will be introducing a resolution designating the day of February 11, 2019, as “PA 2-1-1 Day” in Pennsylvania. 2-1-1 is a free service available to 97% of citizens of the residents of this Commonwealth to gain support needed through health and human services with 100% coverage to be accomplished by the end of 2019. It connects Pennsylvanians in need to health and human service assistance available through government programs, private and non-profit organizations in their communities. PA 2-1-1 is the nonprofit organization assigned use of the 2-1-1 dialing code by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission in order to provide community service information and referral, as currently accomplished through seven regional programs. This program has provided assistance to communities in a time of a disaster and connects volunteers and donors with organizations who can leverage resources to meet the needs of the community. In addition, PA 2-1-1 collects data about information and referral requests which can be used to inform State and local government as well as community service organizations in assessing needs and planning services. It also offers a stable statewide infrastructure that can be used in a broad variety of ways to streamline and enhance the work of State government and eases the burden on Commonwealth departments by helping reduce the number of misdirected calls. The United Ways in this Commonwealth should be recognized for their efforts to provide the PA 2-1-1 system to residents in this Commonwealth. I hope that you will join me in co-sponsoring this resolution. |
