Subject: | Resolution - May 2015 as Better Hearing Month in PA |
I will soon be introducing a resolution to recognize as “Better Hearing Month” in Pennsylvania, and I invite you to join me as a co-sponsor. Damage to hair cells in the cochlea causes permanent hearing problems which may be treated by hearing aids. Such aids help to increase a person's participation in an abundance of activities. Optimum performance and health of the human body depends on the ability for people to understand communication, and be aware of environmental sounds. People with hearing loss have been known to exhibit an increased incidence of other health issues, such as early onset dementia, depression, anxiety or difficulties with job performance. Amplifying one’s hearing can lead to a more productive life as a result of being able to hear and understand others. This resolution is intended to recognize the importance of educating the public about having regular hearing screenings. |
