Subject: | Resolution designating "Independent College and University Day" in Pennsylvania |
I am soon introducing a resolution designating April 21, 2015 as "Independent College and University Day" in Pennsylvania. With more than 90 independent colleges and universities, Pennsylvania is competitive among states as a choice in higher education. Almost 300,000 students are served at these institutions which is 41% of the total number of students enrolled in higher education within the state. They are significant economic drivers within their communities and educate more working adults than public four-year universities. This year on April 21st, many students, advisors and friends will visit members of the General Assembly to discuss the benefits and needs of private higher education in the Commonwealth. This resolution will help to commemorate their advocacy efforts and recognize the vital role private colleges and universities have within Pennsylvania. |
