Subject: | Legislation – Prohibiting Use of Tax Dollars to Lobby Sister State Agencies |
In the near future, we will be re-introducing Senate Bill 697 from last session. This bill would prohibit the use of taxpayer dollars by all three branches of state government to hire lobbyists to lobby a sister agency. This bill would stop the practice of hiring outside lobbyists and lobbying firms that were engaged with State agencies previously, including the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) and Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. In the past, state agencies have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to hire lobbyists to contact state legislators. We are proposing that we end this wasteful and unnecessary spending. Previous co-sponsors of SB 697 were Senators Brewster, Farnese, Folmer, Greenleaf, Hutchinson, Rafferty, Schwank, Tartaglione, and Vance. Please join us in co-sponsoring this important legislation. |
