Subject: | Mushroom Month |
Tomorrow I will introduce a resolution designating September 2014 as “Mushroom Month” in Pennsylvania. Thanks to its 63 mushroom farms, Pennsylvania leads the nation in mushroom production, producing nearly 547 million pounds annually with an estimated value of more than $500 million. That represents nearly one-half of the $1 billion mushroom crop in the United States. Specifically, Pennsylvania’s mushroom producers supply 62 percent of the national agaricus mushrooms. Pennsylvania’s mushroom farms are family-owned and operated, some for as many as four generations. The success of the mushroom industry greatly contributes to the economies of Chester County and Pennsylvania while preserving the Commonwealth’s agricultural traditions and customs. I hope you join me in co-sponsoring this resolution. |
