I will shortly introduce legislation designating the section of Pennsylvania Route 12 in Alsace Township, Berks County, as the SOC (SEAL) Lance M. Vaccaro Memorial Highway. Special Warfare Operations Chief Petty Officer (SOC) Lance M. Vaccaro was a Berks County native who joined the U.S. Navy after his high school graduation. In 1997, he became a member of the elite Navy SEALs, and served tours overseas in Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq, earning numerous awards that include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, four Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, two Combat Action Ribbons, Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and Armed Forces Service Medal. He was killed in a training accident in the United States in 2008. The Supervisors of Alsace Township, where he lived most of his life until enlisting, have requested the designation to honor Chief Vaccaro's service and sacrifice to our country. |
