Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2013 - 2014 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 15, 2013 04:57 PM
From: Senator Robert M. Tomlinson
To: All Senate members
Subject: Consitutional amendment to Article VIII section 2

Please join me in cosponsoring an amendment to the Pennsylvania Constitution. Present law permits an individual who served in any war or armed conflict and were honorably discharged to be exempt from the payment of all real property taxes if they are blind, paraplegic or double or quadruple amputees or have 100% permanent disability, as determined by the U.S. Veterans Administration. The law requires a determination of need by the State Veteran's Commission.

The new changes to the amendment would eliminate any determination of need and grant the exemption to any veteran who qualified by injury. It would also extend the exemption to unmarried spouses of veterans and to spouses of a person killed in action.

Introduced as SB916
