Subject: | Resolution – Designating April 2013 as “Distracted Driving Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, I will introduce a resolution designating the month of April 2013 as “Distracted Driving Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. Distracted driving is any activity that could divert a person's attention away from the primary task of driving thus endangering the safety of the driver, passengers, and bystanders. Motor vehicle accidents resulting from distracted driving caused 10,567 accidents in 2011, an increase of over 350 accidents from 2010 According to national statistics, in 2011, 3,331 people were killed in crashes involving a distracted driver and an additional, 387,000 people were injured in motor vehicle crashes involving a distracted driver. The best way to end distracted driving is to educate all Pennsylvanians about the danger it poses and continue to encourage safe driving habits. Please join me in supporting this resolution. |
