Subject: | Solar & Natural Gas Supply Chain Initiative |
In the near future, I plan on re-introducing legislation that would improve the availability of solar and natural gas supplies to Pennsylvanians, especially in the regions with Marcellus Shale activity. This bill – part of the PA WORKS legislation package – will amend the Alternative Energy Investment Act of 2008 to include a section require the Department of Community and Economic Development to work with industrial resource centers to facilitate cooperation among involved parties in the development of solar and natural gas supplies. These parties will include state and local governments, suppliers and manufacturers. They will be tasked to identify deficiencies in Pennsylvania’s current solar and natural gas supply chain. Additionally, these parties will help to determine and provide incentives to employ Pennsylvania residents and utilize Pennsylvania-based companies in their production. Industrial resource centers will keep a database of local suppliers and other entities that operate within their specific region to further encourage the use of Pennsylvania businesses in the production and supply of solar and natural gas energy. This legislation was SB688 of the 2011-12 session. Previous cosponsors include: Costa, Tartaglione, Hughes, Fontana, Brewster, Farnese, Schwank, Boscola, Yudichak, Washington and Blake. |
