Subject: Resolution recognizing April 18, 2024 as Erie Day in Pennsylvania

COSPONSORSHIP MEMORANDUM

We are seeking to recognize the founding of the City of Erie with a resolution marking April 18, 2024 as Erie Day in Pennsylvania.

On April 18, 1795, an act passed by the General Assembly authorized the surveying of land near Presque Isle on the southeastern shore of Lake Erie to plan the city of Erie and help resolve the boundary between Pennsylvania and New York.  Erie was first established as a borough by act of the General Assembly on March 29, 1805.  This form of government remained until the City of Erie was incorporated on April 14, 1851.  As of the 2020 census, Erie is the fifth-most populous city in Pennsylvania and the most populous in Northwestern Pennsylvania with a population of 94,831.

Please join us in recognizing the founding of the City of Erie by cosponsoring this resolution.
