Subject: Designating May 2024 as “Jewish American Heritage Month”"
 
As a beacon of religious tolerance, Pennsylvania’s history is interwoven with that of the Jewish American community. Jewish immigrants, escaping persecution, first settled in Pennsylvania in the 1700s. Since then, Jewish Americans have continuously served the Commonwealth as leaders in medicine, government, and the arts and as advocates for civil liberties.
 
From Pennsylvania’s first physician, Isaac Cohen, to our current governor, Josh Shapiro, members of the Jewish community have been instrumental in our state’s history. Moreover, since 1980, Congress and the United States President have declared an official observance to recognize the contributions of these and other Jewish Americans. In this spirit, we will be introducing a resolution designating May 2024 as “Jewish American Heritage Month” in Pennsylvania.
 
Jewish Americans have helped to make our state and nation what they are. Kindly join us in honoring their contributions by signing on to this resolution.
