Subject: Local Fire Department Donation Option

Local fire departments stand ready to respond and aid us in the most urgent and dangerous situations. These Departments are key pillars in our community, and many of us have even been benefactors of their courage and diligence. While local communities show support to their fire departments in various ways, I plan to introduce legislation which will allow individuals who are renewing their driver’s licenses or vehicle registration to donate to their local fire department.

Currently, when individuals renew their driver’s licenses or vehicle registration, they have the ability to check a box and donate to the Veterans’ Trust Fund, to pediatric cancer research, breast cancer research, and for the prevention of child abuse and neglect. My bill will add another option for drivers and vehicle owners to donate to their local fire departments. The State Fire Commissioner will be responsible for disbursing these donations to the local fire departments of the contributing residents on a quarterly basis.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation which will provide our residents an opportunity to show their appreciation for the work and dedication of local fire departments.
