MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 8, 2024 01:05 PM
From: Representative Valerie S. Gaydos
To: All House members
Subject: Cost Reduction for County Election Offices

Currently, Section 1631 of the Pennsylvania Election Code requires statewide, legislative, and judicial candidates, as well as political committees, to file finance reports several times a year to the PA Department of State, with additional copies sent to the county in which the candidate resides.  Since this law was made in 1937, the PA Department of State has made all reports available and searchable online, eliminating the need to have duplicate copies sent to the county level.

Thus, to reduce redundancy, simplify filing requirements for candidates and campaign committees, and save money for local governments, I will soon introduce legislation to eliminate the unnecessary duplicate filing of campaign finance reports and require candidates to file only with the DOS.

Please join me in making this change to simplify our campaign finance reporting system and to reduce duplicative work for our county election office employees.

Introduced as HB2072
