Subject: | Recognizing March 8 through 17, 2024, as "National Science and Engineering Week” in Pennsylvania |
Science and engineering have emerged at the forefront of Pennsylvania’s economy. Some of our largest industries include advanced manufacturing, food processing and manufacturing, sustainable energy creation and transition, life science and medical technology, plastics and chemicals, robotics and artificial intelligence, and semiconductors. Further, our state is a national leader in computer science and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, due to contributions of the PAsmart workforce development initiative, and has received federal recognition for innovation in biotechnology and robotics. Nearly 500,000 workers in Pennsylvania help produce the $85 billion generated by advanced industries, such as technology research and development and STEM workers. The engineering services industry in Pennsylvania includes over 52,000 employees working for approximately 5,600 businesses and generating $14.8 billion. For these reasons and more, I will be introducing a resolution to recognize the week of March 8 through March 17, 2024, as “National Science and Engineering Week” in Pennsylvania. Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution as we observe and recognize the value that professionals in science and engineering industries contribute to innovation, regional competitiveness, and economic growth in Pennsylvania. |
