Subject: Fire & EMS Loan Program Fairness (Former HB116)
 
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation amending the Fire & EMS Loan Program under Chapter 73 of Title 35 (Health and Safety).

Specifically, my proposal provides that a fire company will not be eligible to apply for a loan under the Fire & EMS Loan Program if the fire company receives local share funding from gaming proceeds from a casino located in the same county.

Fairness dictates that since fire companies receiving local share gaming proceeds already have the financial support needed to purchase apparatus and equipment, monies available in the Fire & EMS Loan Program should be reserved for fire companies that lack the strong financial support from casino revenue needed to maintain apparatus and equipment.
