Subject: | Medical Assistance - Nursing Facility Reimbursement Rates |
As we all know, the lack of a finalized state budget has begun to cause harm to many, including nursing facilities and the patients they serve. These facilities provide important health-related services in our communities, including traditional nursing care, skilled care, and rehabilitation. Without action, they stand to lose tens of thousands of dollars. Many nursing facilities continue to struggle both financially and with staffing shortages, and matters have been made even worse with a recent rebasing of Medical Assistance (Medicaid) reimbursement rates by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services that factors in more COVID-19 costs, leading to unanticipated swings in rates and increased financial volatility for facilities. Such uncertainties have the potential to cause some facilities to close and patients to lose their care. To address this issue, I will be introducing legislation based on agreed-upon language from the most recent Fiscal Code bill (House Bill 1300) to change the case-mix reimbursement rates for nursing facilities. As negotiations continue on a Fiscal Code bill and other budget-related legislation, I believe we have an opportunity to ensure that entities we all care about receive the necessary funding to continue operating. Please join me in support of this effort to provide nursing facilities with the resources to remain open so that they can continue to serve those in need. |
