MEMORANDUM

Posted: May 17, 2023 09:13 AM
From: Representative Chris Pielli
To: All House members
Subject: Updating The Poll Worker Oath

All poll workers in Pennsylvania must take an oath before assuming their duties. However, the oath needs to be updated. Currently, the oath uses a male name placeholder and references outdated electoral methods.

For those reasons, I plan on introducing a bill to replace the current male name placeholder with gender-neutral language and replace references to outdated electoral methods to reflect current practices.

Poll workers play a critical role in our democracy. The oath that they will take should be inclusive of all Pennsylvanians and reflect how elections are currently conducted. Please join me in co-sponsoring this bill to bring needed updates to the oath.

This legislation is the House companion of Senate Bill 604 by Senators Kane and Committa.

Introduced as HB1271
