MEMORANDUM

Posted: May 9, 2023 09:53 AM
From: Representative Natalie Mihalek and Rep. Jim Marshall, Rep. Ryan Warner
To: All House members
Subject: Resolution Urging Congress to Advance Rail Safety Improvements

In the near future we will be introducing a resolution urging the United States Congress to expeditiously advance rail safety improvements legislation.  Just a few months ago, along the Pennsylvania border, the Norfolk Southern train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio brought national attention to railroad operations and a public outcry from our constituents to improve rail safety.

The Federal Rail Administration (FRA) is the federal agency responsible for regulating the safety of the nation's railroad system and has been actively assisting with the investigation in East Palestine.  Consistent with the Interstate Commerce Clause and case law relevant to railroad regulations, we call upon members of Congress to improve rail safety for all Americans.

Please consider joining us in co-sponsoring this important legislation.
