Subject: | Attainable Housing Community Delegation for Municipalities |
In an effort to encourage attainable and modernized housing options, we will be introducing legislation that would allow municipalities to be designated as an “Attainable Housing Community” if they meet certain criteria, in an effort to encourage municipalities to think creatively to address housing needs. Finding attainable housing has become an increasing issue throughout the Commonwealth across all income levels. Our legislation would allow municipalities to claim the designation of an “Attainable Housing Community”, if they do the following things: 1. Allow for accessory dwelling units in some of their municipal zoning ordinances, and 2. Provide adaptive solutions for “missing middle”, middle income, and workforce housing needs, and 3. Allow for mixed use commercial or retail and residential development, where appropriate. This encourages local governments to think outside the box when they are looking to address housing needs that face their communities, and to promote themselves as communities that are willing to adapt and use creativity to meet the housing needs of their residents. Please join us in encouraging creative housing solutions in our local communities. |
