| A few years ago, a viral video showed two Pennsylvania teens kicking a wounded deer in the face, stepping on its legs, and ripping at its antlers. This heinous behavior led to widespread public outcry, and charges were eventually filed against the two individuals. However, there is currently no statute authorizing the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) to revoke or deny the hunting licenses of individuals who torture wildlife in this way. To remedy this, I will be introducing legislation to grant the PGC the ability to revoke or deny a license to anyone who hunts in this heinous way. The legislation would also give PGC the ability to revoke or deny a license to anyone convicted of animal cruelty. This will provide additional protections to Pennsylvania’s wildlife, while also preserving the traditions of ethical sportsmen across the Commonwealth. Although animals cannot speak for themselves, as a member of the General Assembly’s Animal Protection Caucus, I believe they deserve to be given a voice and that it is our responsibility to provide for the humane treatment of all animals.
