Subject: | Condemning the Russian Invasion of Ukraine |
In the early morning hours of February 24, 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine using a coordinated attack by land, air, and sea. Just yesterday, Ukrainians were going about their daily lives. Restaurants and bars were full, streets were bustling, and shops were making sales as normal. Today, Ukrainians are sheltering in basements as air raid sirens sound, missiles strike, and troops battle along the entire border. In response to the horror their homeland is witness to, many Ukrainian-born people throughout the world are in shock, feeling deeply anxious, helpless, and guilty. War is a terrible thing. We must condemn it with every fiber of our being and every chord of our voice. We must also stand in unity and support for our residents of Ukrainian heritage as Pennsylvania is home to the second largest Ukrainian American population in the nation. For these reasons, I plan to introduce a resolution condemning the Russian government for its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and to express support for Pennsylvania’s Ukrainian population. This resolution will send a message to the country, indeed the world, that Pennsylvania denounces such unwarranted aggression and stands with the Ukrainian people in their fight for lasting peace. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important resolution. |
