Subject: | Mather Mill Land Transfer |
In the near future, I will be introducing legislation authorizing the Department of General Services to grant and convey to The Grist at Mather Mill, Ltd. certain lands, buildings, and improvements, located in Whitemarsh Township, Montgomery County. Mather Mill, built in 1820, is a gristmill listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Currently owned by the Commonwealth, this property needs a new use. It’s representative of a common property type that is near and potentially at risk from water. Both the mill and surrounding properties are in the 100-year floodplain, and the mill itself has flooded several times since the Commonwealth acquired it in 1966. The property to be conveyed consists of a tract of land totaling approximately 3.185-acres, including all building, structures and improvements located thereon at a cost of $1. This transfer of land is approved by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. I believe this to be a win-win for all parties involved; a local organization in Whitemarsh Township will gain ownership of this historic piece of land and its buildings, while the Commonwealth will be relieved of any and all maintenance costs, including damage from flooding. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important piece of legislation. Thank you. |
