Subject: | COVID-19 Start-Up Business Grants |
In 2020, existing businesses received a number of grants to help alleviate the effects COVID-19 had on their business. However, businesses that started after January of 2020 were ineligible for assistance. Many of these businesses started before the full effects of the pandemic and were just as harshly affected as others, but were unable to receive any of the benefits that kept so many of our local businesses afloat. Local businesses that were adversely affected by the pandemic should be able to receive assistance, even if they opened during the pandemic. That is why I am introducing legislation that would appropriate money for small start-up businesses that were ineligible for previous COVID-19 assistance. This county block grant program will award eligible applicants that began operations between January 1, 2020, and December 31, 2021, with grants of up to $15,000. The pandemic has impacted all businesses in Pennsylvania, no matter how long they have conducted business. We must ensure no local businesses are left behind due to the date they began operation. I ask that you join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation. |
