Subject: | Party Designation Legislation |
The current Pennsylvania Election Code of 1937 allows for candidates who are seeking election in certain races to file nomination petitions for multiple political parties. During election season, far too often constituents will call into our office seeking party information for school board, judicial, and other cross-filed candidates. I will soon be introducing legislation to propose that the official registered party of each cross-filed candidate within the commonwealth of Pennsylvania be designated on the ballot either opposite of or under the candidate’s name. Party registration is a matter of public record and in an effort to provide greater transparency, a candidate’s party affiliation should be provided to the voter prior to their vote being cast. This legislation will provide more clarity for voters in our elections process, and hopefully lessen the amount of inquiries that our offices receive of this nature. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. |
