Subject: Resolution - Condemning the Afghanistan Evacuation Planning

In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution condemning the disorganized and chaotic evacuation of United States personnel and Afghan allies from Afghanistan.

As you may know, we are coming up on the 20th Anniversary of September 11th; a solemn day that many of us will remember all too well and for the rest of our lives. It is sad that as we approach this very important date, we find ourselves doing so while watching and witnessing what may be one of the worst and ugliest planned troop withdrawal and evacuations in the history of the United States of America.

Unfortunately, it appears that the President of the United States failed to heed the advice of military and intelligence advisors about the situation on the ground in Afghanistan, the objectives of the Taliban and the al-Qaida threat. Instead of having a well-planned evacuation under a heavy U.S. military presence followed by an orderly troop withdrawal, America saw 13 U.S. troops killed in a Kabul suicide bombing and hundreds of stranded America citizens.

To be clear, as a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, I do not disagree with the decision to withdrawal from America’s longest war and to end our presence in the country, but the situation that has developed was completely preventable.

The unnecessary loss of life and human suffering that continues to take place in Afghanistan due to a poorly planned mission is both unconscionable and reprehensible.

Therefore, please join me in sponsoring this resolution to condemn the planning and clueless handling of the evacuation and withdrawal from Afghanistan.
